Stricter Voting Laws Carve Latest Partisan Divide - New York Times

Then there is this article regarding the restriction of voter eligibility. Basically, in order to vote you have to show some sort of state issued ID card. Doesn't seem too hard, but it seems like a lot of elderly and poor people somehow do not have ID cards. This article gives an example of an elderly woman in Arizona that cannot vote now because she just moved to the state for assisted living. Of coarse, she's a Democrat.

The Republican lawmakers counter with logical arguements including, "You have to show ID for almost everything — to rent a Blockbuster movie!” said Mr. Pearce, a Republican in the State House of Representatives.

Is the restriction of voter eligibility a jab at the Democratic vote, or is it a measure of immigration and lower class control, in general?
