Brazil Gambles on Monitoring of Amazon Loggers - New York Times

Brazil Gambles on Monitoring of Amazon Loggers - New York Times

Oh man, there goes the world's oxygen and precipitation supply. The president of Brazil is now auctioning off the rights to private logging companies to be able to log huge portions of the Amazon. This is really scary since the rainforest is already 39% cleared, and when it hits 40% the natural ecosystems begin to work backwards (in a way) speeding desertification. If there is not enough moisture and oxygen being produced from the ground, the clouds overhead will not have enough moisture to rain everyday. Once that happens, we have what is currently happening in China and Africa.

What can we do? Plant a tree. Encourage responsible housing. Encourage responsible consumerism. Ride your bike. Live downtown. Turn off the lights when you leave the room. Buy furniture from bamboo farms. In short, reduce your consumption of natural resources that is the demand for this supply.
