Cycling world body says doping-scared Tour reflects increased tests - International Herald Tribune

It seems the doping publicity is directly attributed to the efforts being made to wipe out doping. The bad press of the past month regarding the TdF and the debacle of the cycling world has been because the UCI and WADA have been trying to show off how good they are at catching people. Unfortunately, all it means is that the sport is becoming entagled in bitter sentiment from fans and athletes alike.

What I think the ramifications will be from this year's TdF is an increase in American cycling depth. The increase in depth will be because European riders will start to come over here to race because money is being pulled from the European pelotons. Look at what John Vaughters is doing with David Millar, Christian Vande-Velde and David Z. The US peloton just got about 10% more aggressive and 2mph faster with Slipstream alone. Think about what it could mean is Healthnet, Navigators and Colavita also sign a few ProTour riders. And these aren't riders who aren't good enough for racing in Europe, either. These are racers who are getting top 10 finishes in grand tours. Thats pretty amazing.

Cycling is an amazing sport. I love it and I am excited to see where it heads next season, even if its a reordering of the gaurd.
